Excursion Clothing
Headwear
- ski hat or toque
balaclava (face mask) or neck warmer (essential for keeping neck & face warm)
- ski goggles (optional but useful)

Handwear
- insulated mittens with shell (1 pair)
- lined gloves (snug fitting to allow you to undo brass snaps on dog collars etc., essential when handling dogs and camping)
- liner gloves (2 pair), worn inside mittens

Next To Skin Layer
This layer should not be cotton as it holds moisture and feels clammy in the cold. Synthetic fibers like polypropylene, Thermastat, Duofold and Capilene work by repelling water (perspiration). Natural fibre of Merino wool is an excellent choice. The above wick the moisture to the outside where it can dissipate in other clothing layers then evaporate.

- long underwear top and bottom (2 pair) (one pair should be arctic or expedition weight)

Layer Number Two
- thin insulating top (2) (synthetic fleece shirt, turtleneck with zippered collar, wool shirt etc.)
- thick insulating top (wool sweater, polyester pile pullover or 3 in 1 synthetic fleece)

Outer Layer
Made of 60/40 cloth or other breathable nylon or polyester blend ie: Gortex (TM) allows maximum evaporation of moisture while blocking wind.
- arctic weight parka (long, with hood)
- insulating pants
- windshell jacket (could be combined with above
jacket as in a 3 in 1 system)

Footwear
- light liner socks (2 pair, synthetic)
- thick insulating socks (3 pair, wool, wool blend etc.)
- snow boots with removable liners
- insulated camp booties (for evening use on camping trips)

Sleeping Bag & Insulated Mat

Backpack or duffel bag
- gear stowed in duffel bags fits best in the dogsleds, internal frame pack alternate (no external frame packs)

Stuff Sacks
- three or four nylon or cloth stuff sacks will make it easier to organize and find your gear in your duffel bag

Sunglasses & Spare Prescription Glasses
- reflection off the snow greatly increases the intensity of sunlight reaching your eyes. Dark lenses are best. A neck strap and good case will keep them from getting lost or broken. (optional ski goggles)
