Sustainability - Ecosystem Matters

Sundogs Excursions is committed to genuine, ecologically sound, interpretive and edu-cational experiences in the boreal forest.

For some, the term 'ecotourism' embraces these approaches. No matter the terminology, we strive to practise tourism for sustainability.
We were the first operator to have been certified by Saskatchewan Nature & Eco-tourism Association HORIZONS program.

In 2007 Sundogs received Tourism Saskatchewan's "Land of the Living Skies" award for environmentally sensitive tourism practises.
Living More Sustainably
- The Triple Bottom Line - Ecosystem, Society, Economics

When you’re with Sundogs you are a part of an everyday commitment to preserving biodiversity, integral ecosystems, intact cultures and the 'sense of wonder' of the magnificent web of life of which of we all are part.
Sundogs' electricity comes from (where else ?) the SUN. Our site is off-grid and powered by a photovoltaic array. Our energy use habits tend toward the 'frugal ' to say the least. Fossil fuels are used only as back-up energy and are used very sparingly.
We installed a composting toilet that uses no water. Less water that has to be purified and moved in and out of the cabin means less energy used, whatever the source.
Call us and we will be glad to share the information and provide names of local suppliers for these environmentally sustainable alternatives.
Take actions such as reducing your carbon dioxide emissions and conserving energy by replacing the two most-used light bulbs in your home with compact fluorescents;replace one appliance with an EnergyStar model;carpool or get a vehicle that has at least 10mpg better fuel efficiency that your existing one.
At Sundogs we idle our vehicle as little as possible. More than 10 seconds of idling uses more fuel than restarting the engine.
At Sundogs we ask our caterer to use as much seasonal, local and organic food items as possible in our guest menus.

At Sundogs we have been recycling paper, aluminum, plastic                               and glass and composted kitchen waste since we started.

At Sundogs we contribute a portion of our annual earnings to Nature Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Environmental Society, Bird Studies Canada, Canadian Food Grains Bank or other organizations working to keep the planet and its people healthy.

At Sundogs we appreciate your suggestions on helping us improve how we can sustain the environment, because ultimately it entirely sustains us.
